There's certainly a place for monster movies, but I feel they can be elevated by involving a deeper commentary or message. For example, the outstanding and dead-on-arrival-due-to-marketing Underwater (Kristen Stewart, believe it or not - no sparkly vampires) has a commentary about why people might choose to put themselves in horrible situations. It's less commentary on, say, capitalism, and more commentary on what monsters we're *really* running from. Also, it's got fun monsters 🤣
Wow… So I’m about to rewatch all the Alien movies now 😁 they’ve always been among my favourites anyway, so I have an excuse to rewatch them all now 😂 like I needed one 😂😂😂
We just finished Romulus (again! LOVE THIS MOVIE), and now I want to start at the beginning again too. Alien is a movie that never fails to give me the shits and I know every part of it off by heart. I even know the scene where the dude's in the rubber Alien suit! It doesn't help, scares me silly.
I got strong nostalgia energy for Aliens when compiling the film clips for the YouTube version of this - my only complaint for both these movies is I merely have the DVD editions, and I feel like my next rewatch deserves 4K love. I wonder if they're even available.
I finally managed to read it, and it made me want to watch the alien movies.
It also helped explain why my HFY alien stories fell flat, I focused on monsters, not the real horror: capitalism.

I will definitely be watching them, thank you for sharing
